Overview: <p>In your role as the Legal Assistant &amp; Legal Connect Coordinator, at The North West Company (NWC) you will provide support to the Vice President, Legal and Corporate Secretary and the Legal Department.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Assist in the management of the legal services intake, tracking, assigning and reporting processes;</li> <li>Draft general correspondence and proofread and format legal documents;</li> <li>Collect and organize litigation materials and prepare litigation summaries (based on summary template);</li> <li>Maintain the Legal Department diary / bring forward system;</li> <li>Act as a liaison between the Vice President, Legal and internal and external clients/external legal counsel;</li> <li>Prepare simple contracts based on contract templates, ensure no obvious missing information, and distribute complete and signed contracts;</li> <li>Ensure signed contracts are stored in the Legal Department&rsquo;s electronic library;</li> <li>Assist the Vice President, Legal in timely management of written, telephone, email and voice communications;</li> <li>Code vendor invoices, process expense claims, and submit cheque requests;</li> <li>Process incoming and outgoing mail, copy, scan, print, file, order office supplies;</li> <li>Arrange and coordinate travel for the Vice President, Legal;</li> <li>Provide administrative support for North West&rsquo;s Board of Directors, as required;</li> <li>Maintains the Legal Department&rsquo;s legal library;</li> <li>Provide coverage for other Legal Department support personnel when they are absent or during times of heavier workloads; and</li> <li>Other duties, as assigned by the Vice President, Legal.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Minimum 3 years of legal assistant experience in a legal department (in house or law firm);</li> <li>Legal Assistant diploma strongly preferred;</li> <li>Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel);</li> <li>Highly organized, detail oriented individual with strong writing, proof reading and verbal skills;</li> <li>Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion;</li> <li>Ability to communicate professionally with internal clients, external counsel and other business partners;</li> <li>Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and to take initiative; and</li> <li>Able to set priorities in a deadline driven environment while maintaining flexibility and superb accuracy.</li> </ul>
