Internship

Paid and Unpaid DOQ

Overview: The Communications Department for Van Buren Township (VBT) in Wayne County is offering an internship opportunity within the Township. Our hope is that you would be able to forward this opportunity to the students in your respective programs: VBT produces, develops, and directs a wide range of video production programs for cable TV and online. We also create content for social media platforms and Township wide commutations. The department is required to work in unison with all department directors to coordinate efficient service to the community. VBT is required to use initiative, discretion and specialized knowledge in the attainment of desired objectives for the Township and should allow interested students the opportunity to obtain hands on experience with these items. The internship will be project-based, but there will be some day-to-day office responsibilities, which they will be required to complete. Duties and projects will be based on the student’s area of study and their specific interests. All interns report directly to the department director or his/her designee
Responsibilities: VBT Communications Department is a Wayne County local government department within Van Buren Charter Township positioning themselves into becoming a active and vibrant community. This program offers an intensive semester based, hands-on, non-paid communications, video production and social media training program. The programs follow Wayne County semester calendar, including exam weeks. The summer semester internship combines both summer sessions. Roles follow semesters in the training period. Rookies, Juniors and Seniors. See handbook for more details.
Requirements: Ideal work assignments are projects that can be completed in the allotted period. Interns are interested in gaining work experience to help them prepare for a career in communications, video production and public relations. We understand that in some cases, this internship will be a student's first experience working in a professional setting. The intern may seek guidance with various issues that you would not normally encounter with an experienced employee such as:

Answering the office telephone and taking messages

E‐mail correspondence

Appropriate level of personal telephone calls or internet use

Etiquette at business meetings

Other Requirements Dependent upon the role the intern/freelancer will be required to have basic skills or have the ability to learn them.

Recommended Skills or Experience to Have:

Studio and Field Camera Operations
Non-Linear Editing
Audio Mixing and Microphone Usage
Lighting Techniques
Cable Wrapping
Control Room Operations
Social Media Applications
Live Meeting Production
Studio Production Operations
On-Air Presence and Delivery
Live Reporting and Interviewing
News Package Production
Multimedia Journalism
Communications Internship Program Handbook
