Overview: <p><strong>CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF VAN BUREN<br /></strong><strong>JOB VACANCY<br /><br /></strong></p> <p class="p1"><strong>THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF VAN BUREN</strong> is seeking qualified candidates and currently accepting applications at the Van Buren Township Police Department, located at 46425 Tyler Rd, Van Buren Township, MI 48111 for Police Officer.</p> <p class="p1"><strong>Position Title</strong>: FULL TIME POLICE OFFICER (SWORN)<br /> <strong>Union Affiliation</strong>: POLC Patrol &amp; Dispatch<br /> <strong>Starting Hourly Wage</strong>: $28.94 ($63,215.27)<br /> <strong>Shift:</strong> 12-hour shifts (84 hours per pay period)<br /><br /></p> <p class="p1"><strong>Excellent Benefit Package:<br /></strong>Life Ins., Health Dental &amp; Vision Ins.<br /> MERS Pension Plan 2.5 multiplier<br /> Paid vacation, compensation time, sick and personal leave<br /> HCSP of $2500 annually (After 2080 hours of employment)<br /> Uniforms/Equipment Provided</p> <p><strong><u>Position Summary</u></strong><u><br /></u></p> <p class="p1">Under the direct supervision of the of the Chief of Police or designee, assigned shift/unit supervisor/commander, the employee will be responsible for performing all the duties of a police officer as required by State and local statute to protect life and property through the enforcement of laws and the suppression of crime; and to perform other work as required.</p> <p class="p1">SUPERVISION EXERCISED<strong>:</strong>&nbsp; Over assigned police interns. Field training officers over assigned personnel.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul class="ul1"> <li class="li1">To perform such duties and assume such responsibilities as required of a police officer with the Charter Township of Van Buren.</li> <li class="li1">To enforce the laws of the State of Michigan and the ordinances of the Township of Van Buren.</li> <li class="li1">To arrest and/or ticket persons found violating the laws.</li> <li class="li1">To work for the prevention and suppression of crime.</li> <li class="li1">To investigate thoroughly all complaints assigned.</li> <li class="li1">To conduct criminal investigations, preserving and processing crime scenes as required.</li> <li class="li1">To thoroughly prepare all complaints/investigations for court and/or hearings.</li> <li class="li1">To testify in courts and/or judicial hearings as required.</li> <li class="li1">Interview suspects, prisoners and witnesses as required.</li> <li class="li1">Prepare written reports and correspondence.</li> <li class="li1">Inspect assigned department equipment prior to duty, advising the shift commander of any damaged or unserviceable equipment.</li> <li class="li1">Perform related work as required.</li> <li class="li1">To interact tactfully and courteously with the public and to work harmoniously with other employees.</li> </ul>
