This is an opportunity to play a critical role ensuring exceptional quality and availability of the interoperable solutions we are developing and launching.

As a Lead QA Engineer, you will be a champion of quality products, collaborating across teams and influencing the SDLC and project management. You will apply the lessons learned from setbacks and issues with quality assurance to build a robust, scalable QA strategy, methodology, and framework. Ultimately, you will help lead and grow the team by driving, educating and influencing implementation, product, and engineering.

What's in it for you

Challenges. We operate at a high velocity with more deployment in October than the previous 18 months. You are excited to jump in as the voice of quality assurance introducing QA standards without overwhelming the implementations, sharing knowledge, and building an environment that brings teams together.

Impact. You will make a tangible and timely impact on the health of Canadians. One of the first projects you will tackle is leading the quality assurance for a COVID-19 testing solution. You will have the opportunity to introduce technologies, processes, and best practices that ensure the quality of solutions never falters. Your success in this role will directly result in keeping Canadians safe. As deliverables are met and your focus shifts to new projects and internal processes, your expertise will help us continue to exceed the expectations of our customers - resulting in company-wide success.

Career development. You will be mentored by our CISO, whose professional superpower is adaptability. You will be supported in your growth, from onboarding to expanding your leadership strengths. You will be given the autonomy to build out your role and that of QA. You will be part of a company that rewards and recognizes merit and creates new opportunities for advancement.

Responsibilities:
How you will make an impact

Own and define. You will design and roll out a quality assurance strategy, methodology, and framework, building quality into the internal SDLC and project management cycle. You will manage all aspects of QA for software releases, such as test strategies and plans, defects rate and exit criteria, validation of release notes, etc.

Be both advisor and hands-on. You will act as the key point of contact for the QA program and requirements. You will plan and execute client testing. You will participate in sprint planning, product design reviews, perform functional and integration testing, and verify test results.

Foster a collaborative approach. You will prioritize knowledge sharing and build an environment that brings teams together, providing value, and gaining buy-in through the introduction of autonomous processes, establishing QA standards without overwhelming the development and implementations.

Create, plan, and execute testing. You will develop a continuous integration testing framework, merging build /compile /test /validate processes with scheduling, automated notifications, and graduated build deployments. You will conduct system analysis to decompose functional and system requirements to develop test case scenarios for Web and Mobile applications.

Lead the team. You will mentor team members, manage outside contract testers, and ultimately grow the team.

Measure and track. You will monitor product and story-level quality health metrics (i.e., test health, test coverage, testability, etc.) and make recommendations for improvements. You will document and report test results while driving defects to resolution.

Requirements:
What you bring

The education. We know not everyone gains their skills and knowledge through traditional formats. You may have a college certificate or diploma, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

The experience. You have hands-on expertise developing scalable automation test frameworks for client-facing products, ideally at a startup. You have 4+ years working across the full SDLC in a Test-Driven Development (TDD) environment.

The knowledge. You understand the pain points of product development and implementation. You are familiar with the SDLC, Story lifecycle, and Project Management lifecycle and how to embed quality assurance at every stage. You have worked with Release Managers and development teams to deploy software, providing recommendations to ensure system reliability, capacity, and scalability.

The technical toolbox. You are comfortable with a range of open-source tools and have hands-on expertise with:

Scripting Languages (e.g., Python, Ruby, Pearl, Bash).

Automation (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).

Testing (e.g., Selenium, JMeter, SoapUI, Swagger, Locust).

Frameworks (e.g. Robot, TestProject).

CI/CD (e.g., Azure Pipelines, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Circle CI, Jenkins).

Data Transfer (e.g. REST/JSON, SOAP/XML).

The heroics. You have a professional superpower. It could be the ability to focus on the user experience above all else like our Director of Product, Mahmoud, or our CFO Anna's vision building strength, or our CEO Michael's ability to know precisely when you are having fun (which you should be) and when you aren't.

Our culture, our team

Our Founder and CEO firmly believes that helping transform healthcare with technology should be fun and Nerd friendly and if you share that belief, you are going to love working here.
