Responsibilities: <p><strong>How you will make an impact:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Check unverified laboratory results for accuracy prior to verification and investigate unexpected abnormal and/or spurious results according to laboratory policies, processes, and/or procedures.</li> <li>Perform operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory analyzers and equipment.</li> <li>Monitor quality control results and respond appropriately to discordant results.</li> <li>Ensure specimen collection, integrity, transport, and storage is appropriate for sample processing and analysis.</li> <li>Refer discordant findings to appropriate personnel for further follow-up.</li> <li>Assist at bone marrow collections; check specimens for acceptability; processes in-house and send-out test requests.</li> <li>Monitor temperature and expiry dates of blood and blood component products to ensure products are acceptable for transfusion; discard outdated or compromised products as required</li> <li>Check OR list to ensure blood products are available for required surgeries.</li> <li>Issue blood and blood component products.</li> <li>Actively participate in the Laboratory quality management system and process improvements.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>You have:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>The education and certification. </strong>Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program or equivalent education (CSMLS). Must be registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in good standing.</li> <li><strong>The practical experience.</strong> Minimum 2 years recent Chemistry, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting is preferred or must demonstrate successful completion of all relevant education / refresher courses within the past 2 years. You are comfortable using Meditech, Paradigm, and Microsoft Office.
