Overview: The Regulatory Specialist is responsible for ensuring and maintaining the high quality and accuracy of Private Brands labels through regulatory and legal compliance with current U.S. packaging labeling regulations, brand consistency and clarity of label content. This position is an individual contributor for an assigned category vertical within the Private Brands team that provides guidance and assistance to expand regulatory knowledge and reduce label edit rounds. Under the leadership of the Regulatory Manager, partners with Design, Project Management, Product Excellence, and Private Brands Category Development teams to deliver 100% accuracy, compliance, and speed-to-shelf.&nbsp;<strong>Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days.</strong>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Collaborates with Design, Product Excellence, Category Development and suppliers to ensure packaging design and label content complies with regulatory guidelines and aligns with brand strategy.</li> <li>Acts as in-house subject matter expert regarding compliance of product labeling according to FDA, USDA, FTC, EPA, CBP and State level labeling laws and guidance documents.</li> <li>Identifies, interprets, and communicates regulatory and legal concerns and offers alternative solutions for label content such as product names, claims and romance copy.</li> <li>Reviews and approves new and existing labels at all design stages to ensure accuracy of grammar, syntax and regulatory label content including product names, ingredients, allergens, nutrition facts, claims, logos.</li> <li>Validates and approves claim compliance documentation and 3rd party certificates for on-pack claims, statements, and logos.</li> <li>Clarify necessary revisions to labels and product specifications with suppliers through written and verbal communication using the online label review system.</li> <li>Approves label specifications submitted by suppliers in the Private Brands Product and Packaging Specification System.</li> <li>Stays up to date with regulatory changes and updates through various industry and regulatory resources.</li> <li>Provides ongoing training to Private Brands teams regarding labeling compliance according to state and federal labeling laws, regulations, and litigation trends.</li> <li>Ensures compliance documentation is maintained according to company requirements.</li> <li>Manages multiple label review and compliance projects as assigned.</li> <li>Effectively organizes and schedules one&rsquo;s own project workload to meet project timelines.</li> <li>Additional job duties may be assigned as needed to meet the needs of the business and support our Values.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>Knowledge:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of product and food labeling (USDA, FDA, FTC, State).</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Skills:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to communicate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.</li> <li>Project Management skills.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Abilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be able to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.</li> <li>Detail-oriented, deadline driven, and able to multi-task.</li> <li>Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and requires limited day-to-day supervision and guidance on handling unique situations.</li> <li>Ability to be able to work collaboratively and independently.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Education:</strong></p> <ul> <li>&nbsp;Bachelor of Science Food &amp; Nutrition, Food Science or related field or equivalent job experience.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in labeling regulatory or related industry.</li> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p>
